February 23, 1865 – Richard Clow’s Letter Speaks from the Past!

Two pictures of the fortifications at Petersburg from each side’s perspective helps us understand some of Richard Clow’s written coments in the section of the letter written on 23 Feb, 1865.

Soldier’s Hut at Petersburg Battlefield – 8ft by 8ft- Comfy by 1865 standards!

This is an enlisted man’s hut (4 soldiers to a hut) regarded as very accommodating and cozy for the men to overwinter at Petersburg in the winter of 1864-65.
